Our roadmap explains how AEL intends to move towards a resilient, predominantly renewable electricity system through a phased, evidence-led transition, ideally over the next 10 years.

Alderney’s energy transition is about much more than installing renewable generation. It is about how we modernise a small, permanently islanded electricity system without compromising the safety, reliability, resilience or affordability that the island depends upon every day. Our new Energy Transition Roadmap sets out the thinking behind that journey: how we will strengthen the network, improve monitoring and control, integrate storage and renewable generation, test new technologies carefully, and learn as we go. It also explains why sequencing matters, why no single technology should become a premature dependency, and how AEL intends to balance ambition with responsible stewardship.

The roadmap is not a fixed promise to one technology, supplier or timetable. It is a framework for making better decisions as evidence develops. We want Alderney to move quickly where we can, cautiously where we must, and always with the long-term interests of the island in mind.
