Help with paying your bill

If you're worried about paying your electricity bill, please talk to us as early as possible.

How AEL can help

Payment plans

You don't have to wait for your quarterly electricity bill before making a payment.

We can arrange regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments to help spread the cost of your electricity throughout the year. We can also review your payments with you if your account begins to build up either credit or debt.

Prepayment meters

For some customers, a prepayment meter can provide a straightforward way of managing ongoing electricity costs.

Where there is an existing balance on an account, we may also be able to agree an arrangement where part of each payment goes towards gradually reducing that debt.

Please contact us and we can discuss whether prepayment may be suitable for you.

Other financial support available

There may also be financial support available through the States of Guernsey and other organisations.

AEL does not determine eligibility for these schemes, but we can help point you towards the organisations that do.

Income Support

Income Support is a means-tested benefit administered by the States of Guernsey. It is intended to help households whose income is not sufficient to meet their assessed living costs.

Eligibility depends on your household circumstances, income and other factors.

Winter Fuel Allowance

Some households may also qualify for the States of Guernsey Winter Fuel Allowance, which provides additional help towards heating costs during the winter.

Importantly, you may still be entitled to some Winter Fuel Allowance even if your income is slightly too high to receive a regular weekly Income Support payment.

For winter 2025/26, the maximum allowance was £42.42 per week. The rate for winter 2026/27 will be updated once confirmed.

Eligibility is assessed by the States of Guernsey.
